Hurricaine Irene hits the beach at Wildwood Crest

With the mandatory evacuation in place, Wildwood Crest is quieter than usual for this time of year. We wait from Pennsylvania to find out what will happen and how much damage Irene will bring to both The Crest and the Western Philly suburbs.

While there's plenty of news coverage on North Carolina and NYC, the beaches in the middle remain a virtual dead zone for media coverage.

Early morning TV footage from The Boathouse and Uries restaurants showed about two feet of water on the island. With Sunday morning high tide still pending, we'll continue to await the news on how much water fills the streets of St. Louis Avenue.

Cape May Sandcastle Competition

Five sandcastle artists represented Down-the-Shore Sandcastles at the Cape May Sandcastle Competition on August 5, 2011. Prep work started around 7am, with carving completed by noon. The results of the people's choice awards were announced at 1pm. While no awards were won this year, the crowds that viewed and commented on the castle were reward enough.

Here are some progress shots of the castle throughout the morning....
